Brian, Clare
Hi I am a Green Party Councillor on Ennis Town Council and Clare County council. I have some motor Industry Experience with a Diploma in Transport Engineering from Bolton Street and have spent years messing about with veg oil fueled cars and the like. When I heard of the record for the Peugeot 308 HDI and seeing the Car in Sullivan and Hansburys Dealership in Clare I have been Driving the 308 for a number of days and with the assistance of a few sceptics put the car through a few tests. heavy foot and light foot driving including the pulse and glide Driving technique and limiting speed to 60 KMPH. The Sceptics included two Engineers Pat Stephens from the Clare Limerick Energy Agency and Colm Garvey who Asseses CO2 out puts. Both of these characters were impressed as I was Myself. Standard Performance driving normally staying in fifth as often as possible was 4.3 L/100k at anaverage speed of 71 KMph that is about 66 mpg on a Trip from Ennis to Lahinch and giving a very credible 116 grams per km of CO2 . Using the Speed Limit function which is most important if anyone wants to conserve fuel as the amount of energy used is roughly the three cubed of velocity the best we achieved was 2.9l /100K or about 98 miles per gallon at an average speed of 41kmph and the ridicolous Co2 emmision of 72g per km. This Engine and its managment system gets my stamp of approval. How I would love the opportunity to put it in a 106 with narrow tyres. A low power to weight ratio and low rolling resistance the record of 126 mpg would be blown out of the water. But I love the creature comforts of the 308 hdi I have to admitt Love those French Cars

I have been a Kilroys customer as I am from Limerick but have moved to Slatterys Garage outside Nenagh now, got my car serviced & some warranty issues sorted out, I was offered the 308 HDI test drive, so i took it for 24 hours & couldn't believe the economy & road tax for €104 !!!! Amazing machine... also liked the 3008 in Slattery's showroom with the 1.6 HDI aswel, we'll see in January!!!
Declan Colley, Motoring Correspondent The Irish Examiner,
"In times when "economy" rather than bling is the watchword in terms of what buyers now want, Peugeot has every bit as much to offer as any of its competitors. A case in point is the new Peugeot 308 Ecomatique which is now both more economical and emits less CO2, giving it a much more appealing characteristic. We all know the 308 to be a very stylish, well kitted, safe and refined small family car and I have to say that the Eco version certainly added to the sales potential here.. The 308 offers people cheaper motoring in a very attractive package, and that's just what customers and dealers alike want right now."
